British Embassy Recruiting Assistant Information Technology Systems Officer

The British High Commission has a vacancy for a full-time temporary Assistant Information Technology Systems Officer.

Position: LE III Assistant Information Technology Systems Officer (Temporary Position)

General
The British High Commission has a vacancy for a full-time temporary Assistant Information Technology Systems Officer for a six-month fixed contract.

Duties will include:

To work with the rest of the Abuja IT team to provide 8am to 4pm support on the Abuja IT Helpdesk, ensuring that calls are answered and problems resolved within agreed timescales;
Server Management and Backup – to undertake regular server checks/ maintenance and carry out backups and other approved SA duties within agreed timescales.
Help ensure maximum availability of the network to users by closely monitoring system performance and resolving IT problems in conjunction with other stake holders;
Help ensure the security of the system and ensure that any potential breaches of security are reported and investigated;
Maintaining the integrity of the network by ensuring the physical security of data through planned backup and recovery procedures;
Updating and monitoring antiviral software;
Small systems support (e.g Laptops, PDAs) and system administration of standalone PCs;
BHC Abuja internet facility – to work with the rest of IT team to ensure minimal down time and also complete all outstanding work and provide documentation.

Qualities needed

We are looking for someone with good oral and written communication skills. In particular, successful candidates should have in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office and be able to work quickly and accurately, often under pressure, have a positive approach to tackling problems and a willingness to take on new tasks. The most important qualities required are good organisational skills, diligence, resilience, a flexible approach and the ability to work well in a small team.
Previous experience of NT 4 or other Windows network systems (e.g. Windows 2000 or XP), providing IT system support in either the public or private sectors, training users in IT systems and delivering presentations. Also desirable is a recognised IT qualification. For example, International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL), either at beginner or advanced level.

Other Information

This is a six month temporary full time position, from 8am – 4:00pm, Monday to Thursday and 8am – 1.00pm on Friday, also on occasion some additional hours may need to be worked.
The job will be graded LE III with a monthly starting salary of N238,620.
The job will be subject to a three month probationary period. Successful candidates who are not liable to pay Nigerian tax will be subject to a 10 % notional tax deduction on the basic salary.
The salary will be paid in Naira.
