Bananas are among the most widely consumed fruits on the planet and one of Americans’ favorite fresh fruit. Bananas are extremely high in potassium and pectin, a form of fiber. Bananas are also high in antioxidants, which can provide protection from free radicals.
Bananas are known to reduce swelling, protect against developing type-2 diabetes, aid in weight loss, strengthen the nervous system and help with production of white blood cells, all due to the high level of vitamin B6 that bananas contain. Bananas also combat depression, make you smarter, cure hangovers, relieve morning sickness, protect against kidney cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis and blindness. They can cure the itch of a mosquito bite and put a great shine on your shoes. However, most people just worry about what the actual fruit can do for them and immediately trash the peeling.
Banana peels packed with nutrients. Banana peels are eaten in many parts of the world. The peel, just like the fruit itself, contains high amounts magnesium, potassium, fiber and protein as well as vitamin B6 and B12. Banana peels also contain bioactive compounds like polyphenols and carotenoids, among others. One important note about the peel, unlike the fruit the peel typically is sprayed with some sort of pesticide, so it is best to buy fresh, organic bananas or if you are unable to buy fresh, organic, it is important to thoroughly wash the banana peel before use.
